bret. bret: james, thank you. senior political analyst brit hume has some thoughts on this situation. good evening, brit. >> hi, bret. every president ends up disgusted with the news media in general and with certain individuals or outlets in particular, but there is an old adage often attributed to mark twain that advises against picking fights with people who buy ink by the barrel. he is speaking of the big mead yaf his day which were newspapers. most presidents refrain from attacking news outlets, perhaps mindful of another saying that it is bad idea to get into a public fight with someone smaller than you are because it diminishing you and he elevates your opponent. fox news may be the biggest news channel by far but not as big as the presidency. there is an additional problem with fighting with the press, the protections by the first amendment make the media invulnerable to attacks by the presidents. so the salvo fired by the white house is a risky strategy. the white house has chosen its words with some care
